the pillow has the smell of hair coming off the body
and the unconscious movement still accompanies the furrows.
It’s refuge, welcome, shelter, protection.
I’m me, I’m us, I’m place, I’m identity.
Marks is a photographic series that tries to reflect on the refuge that is created in the privacy of a bed. The images, taken over seven days just after the bed was occupied, show the marks left behind. They are traces of an identity; of a being and its refuge. We use the bed as a resignified space; a queer place that has been transformed and disguised, that has become in something totally different and absorbs the identity of the subject.
We show, through the furrows and wrinkles left in a sheet, the meaning of that place; what may or may not have happened in there, and the languages and stories marked. The marks left for seven days tell the story of who occupies that space and, even if it were abandoned, that trail of what it was will always remain imprinted.
